⏵ character information
name: Sleeper
canon: Marvel Comics, specifically the Venom lineup.
age: around 2 years old, but fully mature as far as their species goes.
canon point: After leaving Dylan to brood in Venom v5 issue 35
history:here
abilities:
Symbiote Biology: Sleeper can amplify the physical characteristics of a host when bonded with one, and can also grant it the ability to produce chemicals while present. Even without a host, they are able to manifest a human or animal form at will. When bonded to a host, Sleeper is able to mask their presence so that the host may be unaware of them if needed. Additional symbiote abilities include:
Limitations: Like most members of their race, Sleeper is vulnerable to sound and fire, causing them to be unable to use their abilities. They also are limited in their ability to regenerate from fire and could be killed if excessively burned without a chance to recover.
personality:
Sleeper showed a lot of traits that would be considered cat-like long before they took on that shape as their normal appearance. Smug and self-interested, they tend to opt out of the obvious hero stuff, instead preferring to stay out of combat unless absolutely necessary. They are, however, intensely protective of those they consider family, and will take all kinds of risks to draw trouble away from them. Intelligence and independence also shape this symbiote's personality, as well as a feeling of uniqueness for being the one decent spawn in a family of monsters. However, their view of decency isn't the kind of upstanding morals most people would approve of. They definitely have a sense of 'do unto others' as they showed with using Tel'Kar as a puppet body, as well as not really considering the needs of those around them who aren't family or friends. They show no issue with using their offshoot ability to access the sleeper agent's resources for the benefit of their human brother, Dylan, or compunction about killing and potentially eating those branded as enemies.
Their loyalty is to their family, first, most especially those Dylan has gathered around him in order to try to track down his father and fight the coming Venom War. They care more for individuals than generalities, although they will protect people they consider being unjustly targeted, especially sentient races. But, again like the cat they pretend to be, they often put up a pretense of indifference towards anything that doesn't directly impact them and their comfort.
Sleeper also is prone to attempted manipulation of those around them for their own amusement, although this is usually more in the lines of pretending they can't answer a phone for someone else, or enacting classic cat memes. Even playing with their food is something the symbiote is not above using as a show of what they're capable of, although they tend not to go for sentient species as a source of the specific hormones and nutrition a symbiote needs to survive unless presented with an opportunity that allows it. Given the animosity and fear most people on their Earth feel towards symbiotes, they prefer to keep a much lower presence than the rest of their family. Being secretive and aloof is a survival strategy as much as anything else, and survival in the face of the attempts at extermination is one of their highest goals.
Opting in or out
Because this character and their skills involve topics people can be triggered by, such as loss of agency, the eating of people, and so on, please feel free to comment here or talk to me about any subjects you would be willing to or prefer not to explore.

Even without a host, they are able to manifest a human or animal form at will. When bonded to a host, Sleeper is able to mask their presence so that the host may be unaware of them if needed. Additional symbiote abilities include:
- Superhuman Strength: Sleeper is able to lift a fair amount, although probably not more than a ton or two.
- Superhuman Durability: They are harder to hurt, and grant that ability to a host when bonded
- Superhuman Stamina: Probably related to the malleability and manipulation of body chemistry, Sleeper does not generally tire from exertion and can grant some of that to a host.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Sleeper can restructure their body at will, providing nearly instant recovery from injuries not related to their racial weaknesses.
- Wall Crawling and Webbing Generation: Skills inhered via the Venom symbiote's previous experience with Spider-Man.
- Matter Manipulation and Generation: General shapeshifting, the ability to completely control and shape the alien ooze that is the general makeup of a symbiote. Sleeper is capable of creating limbs and body parts of any kind at will, including specialized structures like gills or natural weapons like fangs and claws, or even what would normally be real weapons like axe-like blades on the ends of their arms. They can shape their matter to resemble any material, organic or inorganic, including things like metal and crystal if desired. Sleeper is also sufficiently advanced in their symbiote skills to be able to animate their substance without requiring a host.
- Camouflage Capabilities: Sleeper is able to shift their physical form to the semblance of many commonplace things, from inanimate objects to clothing. They can also shift to match surroundings or mimic another being for disguise, and even manipulate ambient light to become perfectly invisible. Linked with Chemokinesis, they can manipulate sensory inputs to be effectively overlooked or ignored with ease.
- Augmented Visual Senses: Sleeper is somehow able to see things that are cloaked and invisible to both the naked eye and technology. It is uncertain how they can do so.
- Chemokinesis: Sleeper has a unique biology that allows them to produce both liquid and aerosol chemicals of any kind they are familiar with. These can have a variety of effects, including inducing various emotional states, tranquilizing targets, psychological manipulation, and secreting corrosive chemicals for offensive purposes. They can use their ability to produce and manipulate pheromones to effectively form a telepathic link with an individual, allowing nonverbal communication without an actual host-bond. They can also cloak their presence even to other symbiotes, rendering their presence invisible. Other shown uses include creating rocket propulsion, flammable or corrosive substances, and acid.
- Offshoots: Sleeper can separate off a portion of themself and bond it with a person, allowing them to use them as a sort of remote operated host body. The so-called Sleeper Agent does not even have to be aware of having that connection to a symbiote, although if unaware, they cannot take conscious advantage of those skills. Player permission would be required to use this aspect in either a willing or unknowing fashion.
Limitations: Like most members of their race, Sleeper is vulnerable to sound and fire, causing them to be unable to use their abilities. They also are limited in their ability to regenerate from fire and could be killed if excessively burned without a chance to recover.
